Privacy Policy

Clearway is an on-device mileage log with no account and no developer-operated server. This policy explains how Clearway handles information and how it uses Apple services on your behalf.
Information We Collect
Clearway does not send the developer your trips, location, usage, or diagnostic data. The developer does not sell personal information or use personal information for advertising, analytics, or cross-app tracking. Clearway contains no third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs.
If you contact support by email, the developer and the email service used to receive the message will receive your email address and anything you choose to include. That information is used to respond to and manage your support request. Do not include trip or location information unless you want the developer to receive it. You may request deletion of a support email by contacting the address below, subject to any information the developer must retain for legal or security reasons.
Trips and Location
When you start a tracked trip, Clearway uses your device's location to calculate distance and draw a route. Clearway does not automatically detect trips. Manual trips use only the information you enter.
Trips and related information—including dates, times, distances, titles, categories, vehicles, notes, addresses, and simplified routes—are stored on your device. Raw location fixes recorded during a trip are automatically deleted after 30 days when Clearway performs its cleanup; the trip's calculated distance and simplified route remain until you remove the route or delete the trip.
You can remove a route without deleting its trip, delete individual trips, or use Delete Everything in Settings.
Apple Maps and Address Lookup
Clearway uses Apple's MapKit to display maps and render map images. Map requests send information to Apple, including the map area being viewed or rendered and technical information needed to provide the service. Apple handles that information under Apple Maps & Privacy.
Address lookup is optional and off by default. If you enable it, Clearway sends the start and end coordinates of a completed trip to Apple's reverse-geocoding service so Apple can return place names. Those coordinates are not sent to the Clearway developer.
iCloud Drive Backups
Clearway automatically creates backup archives after changes to your trip log. When iCloud Drive is available, the archives are stored in Clearway's app container in your iCloud Drive using your Apple Account and iCloud storage. If iCloud is unavailable, Clearway keeps the archive on the device instead.
An archive may contain your trips, dates and times, distances, titles, categories, vehicles, notes, saved addresses, simplified routes, imported custom icons, the app version, and the device name. Raw location fixes are not included. Archives are gzip-compressed JSON and are readable through the Files app or from a Mac signed in to the same Apple Account; Clearway does not add its own encryption to the archive. Apple encrypts iCloud data in transit and stores it in encrypted form as described in Apple's iCloud security overview.
The developer does not receive a copy of your backup and has no developer-operated service through which to view, restore, or delete it. Apple processes iCloud data under Apple's Privacy Policy. Clearway keeps up to three archive generations so that an older recovery point may remain available if the newest backup is damaged.
Siri and Spotlight
The Saved Trips in Siri & Spotlight option is off by default. If you enable it, Clearway places selected trip information—titles, dates, distances, categories, and vehicles—in a protected on-device Spotlight index so Siri and Spotlight can find or summarize saved trips. Routes, addresses, and notes are not included in that index. Enabling App Lock removes the index.
Shortcuts and App Intents may process the trip details needed to perform an action you request. A named Start shortcut may include the category name you selected.
Widgets, Live Activities, and Controls
While a trip is active, Clearway shares only the start time, accumulated distance, display unit, and category appearance with its widget and Live Activity through the app's private app-group container. Coordinates, addresses, titles, notes, and vehicle details are not included in that shared snapshot.
A Start or End control stores only the requested action until Clearway can handle it.
Custom Icons and Photo Access
If you choose to import a custom category or vehicle icon, Clearway receives only the image you select. The processed icon is stored on your device and included in Clearway's iCloud Drive backup. The developer does not receive it.
Exports and Sharing
Clearway creates an export only when you request one. An export may contain the trip information you select. The export is provided to the iOS share sheet, and any copy you send or save is then handled by the destination and its privacy practices. Clearway removes its temporary export file after the share sheet closes.
Security and Your Choices
Clearway uses iOS file protection for its local records. You can enable App Lock to require device authentication before the trip list is shown. App Lock protects access through Clearway; it does not lock the readable backup file in iCloud Drive or the Files app.
In Settings, you can turn address lookup and Siri/Spotlight indexing off, remove routes or trips, export a copy of your records, and use Delete Everything to delete local Clearway records and Clearway's backup archives. Deletion from iCloud requires a working iCloud connection and may take time to propagate through Apple's systems and backups.
Children’s Privacy
Clearway is not directed to children, and the developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.

This policy may change as Clearway evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new last-updated date.
